The New Age Of Art

Digital art is an artistic form of work that uses digital technology as a part of the creative or presentation process. Since the 1960s, various names have been used to describe the process, including computer art and multimedia art. Digital art is itself placed under the larger umbrella term “New Media Art.” The rise of technology in the 21st century has drastically changed the way we think, create and consume art.

Digital technology has not only widened the reach of art, but also expanded the potential for creating new forms of art. It has completely changed the way in which the art industry operates. From CGI software, to small digital comics on social media, to virtual auctions, it has affected how art is created, promoted, bought and sold.

While there is a cost of materials in digital art as well it is rather less compared to that for traditional artists who require a never ending supply of paint, canvas, clay or film ; while in digital art one has to incur expense maybe once or twice to buy a device, a particular program, a stylus, or to repair. But the expense that hasn’t changed in this transformation is the cost of one’s own time; both digital and physical art still practically take the same time.

Digital illustration is the creation of a narrative image that tells a story from the creator’s side or sells a concept or product. While traditional illustrations are created using methods such as oil or watercolor on paper or canvas, digital illustrations are made using software.

Some advantages of Digital Art are:

  • The art piece can be worked on at any time and the strokes can be
    reversed.
  • It has greatly broadened the creative opportunities available to professional and non-professional artists a like.
  • The digital art once created can be further processed to make a 3d model of the figures / illustration or even animated into moving scenes.
  • This added processing makes the creative process move from still images to moving cinema
  • Also the new age social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, also require newer forms of expressions like posts, GIFs, memes, comics, fusing of video and animation. All this wouldn’t be possible without digital art.
  • Many aspects of digital art and communication also play a major role in transforming the understanding of concepts in the traditional education system. Children can now view 3d models and see animations to better grasp the nuances and logic behind various theorems and principles. It has given a new dimension to education and has made it more immersive and fun.
  • Digital art has also totally revolutionised the gaming industry..games like fifa, call of duty, candy crush, all these wouldn’t even have been able to conceptualise without digital art.
  • Most digital art pieces also have a greater longevity compared to traditional pieces as traditional pieces eventually degrade.
  • Small time consuming tasks like making an invite or poster to spread awareness now take extremely less time and can be shared with many people via social media instantly.
  • Another advantage is the accessibility of digital art; it can be created on almost any device nowadays.
